New features, enhancements, and cybersecurity improvements
We are proud to present the 2025 roadmap for S2OPC, our open-source and secure implementation of OPC UA.
This new roadmap outlines new features, performance upgrades, and cybersecurity enhancements, including the integration of our Cyberkit.
It marks another eventful year for S2OPC, which will gain two additional modules: a data aggregator and an interface with PKIs!
S2OPC 2025 Roadmap: key developments and upcoming features
Q2: Security audit
Among its cybersecurity mechanisms, OPC UA integrates security audits. It is a key element as it is a standardized system for tracking and recording actions and events within OPC UA servers, primarily to support security, traceability, and compliance requirements. These events can then be harvested using an OPC UA client acting as a SIEM.
Q2: New node management capabilities
S2OPC will support additional functionalities to add and/or remove at run-time elements from the address space. This is particularly useful in use cases where all elements cannot be defined at startup.
Q3: Embedded devices support
From the start, S2OPC has been designed to be embedded into microcontrollers with limited resources, especially those running with Zephyr or FreeRTOS as RTOS. Systerel continue this focus and expand support, including Zephyr 3.7 LTS
Q4: Alarm and conditions
OPC UA Alarms and Conditions (A&C) provide a standardized information model and mechanisms for representing, transmitting, and managing alarms, conditions, and related notifications within industrial automation systems. This release will provide users with a first functional perimeter on both the client and server side.
Q4: Performance improvement
As processing time and memory usage are key elements for our users, we are committed to continuously improve the performance of the stack, both in Client/Server and Pub/Sub modes.
Collaborative development with S2OPC
S2OPC is an open-source solution under an Apache 2.0 license and available on GitLab: https://gitlab.com/systerel/S2OPC.
S2OPC is fully committed to the participatory approach and relies heavily on its community for the definition and funding of its future developments.
This roadmap may evolve, let us know if you’re interested in a specific feature!
